Under the guidance of National Chung Hsing University’s lecturer Dr. Hsieh Jui-yu, chef Yang Chih-hsiang from Fong-Man Biotech Farm in Mingjian Township, Nantou County, participated in the Asian Culinary Exchange held in Seoul, Korea, and won top prize in both the individual and group categories with turmeric dishes, such as turmeric pork trotters and turmeric crocodile.

Dr. Hsieh, who is an expert in turmeric, teaches at National Chung Hsing University and Mingdao University, and is a consultant at Fong-Man Biotech Farm. In addition to his excellent culinary skill, the creative use of turmeric allows Yang to emerge the winner from amongst more than 100 competitors from seven countries.

Graduated from the food and beverage management department at Far East University, 27-year-old Yang was surprised by his win as it was the first time he had participated in the international competition. He is especially thankful to renowned chef Hsiao Chung-lung, who is one of the top 100 chefs in Taiwan, for his mentoring and Dr. Hsieh for his professional and technical guidance on turmeric, allowing him to win honors for the nation. Looking forward, he hopes to expand the use of ingredients such as turmeric to develop more delicious recipes that are beneficial to people’s health.
